June Trendlines podcast discusses North American compact excavator market

In the 1990s, a good year for the mini excavator market was around 4,000 machines sold across the whole of North America. A tiny number if you consider that skid-steer loader sales were running at around 50,000 machines per year for most of that decade and there were also 25,000-30,000 backhoe loaders going into the market each year.

But today the North American mini excavator market is running at 65,000 machines per year, and these machines comfortably out-sell both backhoe loaders and skid-steer laoders.

In this month’s Trendlines podcast, Diesel Progress Senior Editor talks to Off-Highway Research’s Chris Sleight about the surge in popularity for these machines and what has driven it.
